Summary

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the teahouse。。。

Miss Charlotte Pettifer belongs to a secret league of women skilled in the subtle arts。 That is to say—although it must never be said—witchcraft。 The League of Gentlewomen Witches strives to improve the world in small ways。 Using magic, they tidy, correct, and manipulate according to their notions of what is proper, entirely unlike those reprobates in the Wisteria Society。

When the long lost amulet of Black Beryl is discovered, it is up to Charlotte, as the future leader of the League, to make sure the powerful talisman does not fall into the wrong hands。 Therefore, it is most unfortunate when she crosses paths with Alex O'Riley, a pirate who is no Mr。 Darcy。 With all the world scrambling after the amulet, Alex and Charlotte join forces to steal it together。 If only they could keep their pickpocketing hands to themselves! If Alex's not careful, he might just steal something else—such as Charlotte's heart。

I broke at the title for chapter 20, and laughed hysterically for a solid 5 minutes。 This was so funny and super cute; a great sequel to the first book。

A witch and a pirate?Charlotte and Alex are so much fun together。 Pirates and Witches are sworn enemies so they should not partners in crime on a fun and romantic adventure。 I loved their banter, it was so much fun, especially with the sizzle just under the surface。 The adventures they get up to are so much fun and often had me laughing out loud。 This book has a little more heat and spice than the first book and the romance between Alex and Charlotte is fun and steamy。 The secondary characters added so much to the story with drama, humor, action and danger。 A witch hunter even makes an appearance。 India Holton’s writing is clever and entertaining, with many references to Shakespeare and Austen。 The action is non-stop and the interplay between the rival Wisteria Society and Gentlewomen Witches is wonderful。 This is an enemies-to-lovers, road trip romance (but in a flying house)。 If you’re looking for pure escapism that will keep you laughing, this is the book for you, it is pure escapism and entertainment。 。。。more

I did not know this was the second book in a series (thanks, library app!)。 It was very silly but enjoyable。 I liked the interaction of the main couple。

The League of Gentlewoman Witches is just as charming and delightful as The Wisteria Society, if not more so。 It has the same cheeky humor, absurdly charismatic characters, and top notch banter and dialogue that made me fall in love with this series。 It's also even sexier than the first。 I know it's not fair to keep comparing a first and second book in a companion series, but League is even better than Wisteria Society。 I absolutely adore Alex and Charlotte, their dynamic is so charming and swoo The League of Gentlewoman Witches is just as charming and delightful as The Wisteria Society, if not more so。 It has the same cheeky humor, absurdly charismatic characters, and top notch banter and dialogue that made me fall in love with this series。 It's also even sexier than the first。 I know it's not fair to keep comparing a first and second book in a companion series, but League is even better than Wisteria Society。 I absolutely adore Alex and Charlotte, their dynamic is so charming and swoon worthy and sexy。 It's a sort of enemies to lovers situation and they claim to maintain their enemy status even when obviously madly in love。 It's just SO GOOD。 Charlotte is a big fan of Jane Austen and constantly compares herself to various Austen heroines in various situations and I thought that was a really fun connection。 These books sort of feel like a modern version of an Austen novel so I really enjoyed that cheeky homage。 Fans of Austen will definitely enjoy this book。 I will absolutely be buying myself a finished copy! I so wanted to like this book。 I loved book 1 in the series, and here we are back in the same bonkers universe, with a prickly heroine and a rakish rake and a jewel heist and flying houses and bicycles。 Somehow, though, this book never quite gets off the ground。The biggest issue for me is the lack of character development。 The whole book is predicated on the theme "two tropes walk into a teahouse", and Holton relies overmuch on tropes--or clever twists on tropes--to do the storytelling for her。 I so wanted to like this book。 I loved book 1 in the series, and here we are back in the same bonkers universe, with a prickly heroine and a rakish rake and a jewel heist and flying houses and bicycles。 Somehow, though, this book never quite gets off the ground。The biggest issue for me is the lack of character development。 The whole book is predicated on the theme "two tropes walk into a teahouse", and Holton relies overmuch on tropes--or clever twists on tropes--to do the storytelling for her。 The characters and romance felt flat, so it was hard to stay invested, however much I loved the universe, the literary jokes, and the premise。 。。。more

I was super excited to return to this world of pirates who fly houses and witches who don't exist, sadly this book wasn't as enjoyable as the first one for me。 Don't get me wrong, loved the Jane Austen references and laughed out loud more than I have while reading in a long time。 Just wasn't as in to the romance (went from enemies to lovers too quickly) or the magical heist (seemed very low stakes)。 Could also be that I read the ebook instead of listening to the audio as the first had excellent I was super excited to return to this world of pirates who fly houses and witches who don't exist, sadly this book wasn't as enjoyable as the first one for me。 Don't get me wrong, loved the Jane Austen references and laughed out loud more than I have while reading in a long time。 Just wasn't as in to the romance (went from enemies to lovers too quickly) or the magical heist (seemed very low stakes)。 Could also be that I read the ebook instead of listening to the audio as the first had excellent narration。 。。。more

Fun。 Joyful。 Crackling with wit and banter and generational rivalry。 India Holton has crafted a world of magic and colorful characters that is so immersive that you can’t help but walk down your street and dream of flying battlehouses and witches who absolutely don’t exist but if they did would be tidying the messes left behind。 I loved Capitan Alex O’Riley when we were briefly introduced to him in The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels…and the Irish pirate captain was exactly the kind of rogui Fun。 Joyful。 Crackling with wit and banter and generational rivalry。 India Holton has crafted a world of magic and colorful characters that is so immersive that you can’t help but walk down your street and dream of flying battlehouses and witches who absolutely don’t exist but if they did would be tidying the messes left behind。 I loved Capitan Alex O’Riley when we were briefly introduced to him in The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels…and the Irish pirate captain was exactly the kind of roguish (he thinks), rakish (he claims) romantic hero that you hope for! Charlotte Pettifer is the prophesied heir of Beryl Black/Black Beryl – depending on if you ask a pirate or a witch (but you can’t ask a witch as they absolutely do not exist!)。 And when Beryl’s magical amulet is stolen by (the mad, murderous, perhaps slightly amourous) Lady Armitage, the Wisteria Society and Wicken League set off to hunt down the amulet and the Pirate Captain and Charlotte who abducted him。 Or he abducted her。 Either way, they are under no circumstances willingly in each others’ company and absolutely despise each other…Or do they? The most fun you will ever have is in the reading of an India Holton novel。 I promise。 And this one absolutely did not let me down。 I was giggling, smiling so much my cheeks hurt, and a few times found myself with tears in my eyes。 The banter between Alex and Charlotte was witty and funny, and equal parts highbrow and hilarious。 The romantic moments they share had me swooning more than once。 And the absolute romping hijinx filled feud between magical pirates with flying houses and witches with deadly broomsticks was just plain fun。 There are tender, emotional moments between Charlotte and Alex as they discover their love for each other, and as Alex wrestles with his complicated emotional history。 Ned and Cecilia have a few cameos that reminded me of why I fell in love with them and this series in the first place。 If you have yet to read this series, what are you waiting for?!Tally Ho! ⭐️5/5🔥2。5/5 (open door, not overly descriptive)🧙🏻‍♀️0/5。 We've been over this。 Witches absolutely do not exist。 🏴‍☠️ 10/10。 Charming。 Dashing。 Not as fearsome as they think they are。 。。。more
